“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” — Proverbs 29:18
I’ve often said, “Be Driven by Vision.” For me, and for many others, this is not a cliché. It is a catalyst for a better life. Vision is not optional; it is essential. Without vision, people wander. They live lawlessly, without hope, and in ways that diminish not only themselves but also their families, relationships, and communities.
But where there is vision, destiny, a divinely customized picture of a better future that wields the power to transform lives, people flourish. They blossom. They are empowered to prosper. Vision fuels life. Vision creates future in the present and allows us to perceive not only what is but what shall be.
Vision Reveals Untapped Possibilities
One of the greatest untapped possibilities is you. Another is the people around you. Vision enables you to look beyond someone’s flaws, their addictions, laziness, or broken personality, and see who they could be.
Every one of us has benefited from someone who looked at us with the eyes of vision. They did not settle for the person they first encountered. They saw potential. They saw greatness. They saw transformation. Their willingness to see through God’s lens of vision perspective changed our trajectory.
Vision equips you to see people not as they are, but as they can become.
Vision Transforms Perspective
Vision changes the way you interpret your environment. It empowers you to:
- See what is dilapidated as a monument waiting to be rebuilt for the next generation.
- See life where there has been death.
- Shine as light in darkness so others can find their way out.
- See diamonds where there has only been dust.
- Recognize success even in failure, and victory in the midst of defeat.
This is what faith looks like in practice. Paul declared, “We walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Vision is faith’s companion, it causes you to perceive possibilities that natural sight alone cannot see.
Sharpening Your Vision
If your vision feels dim, change the frames you’re looking through. Scripture tells us of Elisha praying for his servant, “Lord, open his eyes, that he may see” (2 Kings 6:17). When God opened his eyes, the servant saw what had been invisible, heaven’s armies surrounding them.
You too can pray, “Lord, open my eyes.” Then take intentional steps:
- Surround yourself with friendships that increase your sight, not decrease it.
- Feed on God’s Word, which sharpens your spiritual perception.
- Spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal what He sees.
Reflection Questions
- How has vision changed the way you see your own potential?
- Who around you needs you to look past their present condition and see their God-given possibility?
- In what areas of your life have you been walking by sight instead of by vision?
Declaration
I will not live lawlessly or without direction. I will be driven by vision. I will see life where there is death, hope where there is despair, and potential where others see failure. With God’s help, I will sharpen my vision, walk by faith, and bless lives by seeing them as God sees them.
